Australia and New Zealand kick off the Super 12 stage of the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 in Sydney on October 22. This is the first match of the Super 12s while the 13th match overall of the tournament. The ICC T20 World Cup 2022 final will be played on November 13.
Australia are the hosts of the ICC T20 World Cup 2022. Hence, all the matches will take place at different stadiums spread across Australia. Australia is also the defending champions of the tournament who defeated New Zealand in the last year’s T20 World Cup final.
Australia and New Zealand played an ODI series against each other ahead of the T20 World Cup. The Aussies won the series 3-0. Both teams also played warm-up games as well. The Aussies lost to India by 6 runs in their games. New Zealand lost to South Africa in their first while they’re second against India was washed out due to rain.
Both teams are also struggling with form and fitness issues. The Kiwi side was all out for 98 in their warm-up game against the Proteas. Australia have Mitchell Marsh and Marcus Stoinis struggling with their fitness. David Warner is all set to play the game against New Zealand after falling on his head and injuring his neck in the process while fielding in the second T20i against England recently.
“Stoinis, the reason he wasn’t available to bowl yesterday was just prior injury history, every time that he’s tried to come back and ball back-to-back games coming off the same injury he has struggled and got a niggle on the back of it. So we went with the conservative route there. “Mitch has been building up his bowling at the moment. He just hasn’t been at the intensity to go into a game that’s required especially so close to a World Cup.”
