Bangladesh and New Zealand take on each other in a must-win game in match 5 of the tri-series on Wednesday, October 12. Bangladesh have lost both of their games so far. New Zealand have lost to Pakistan in their first game and then bounced back by winning their next two games.
They defeated Pakistan in their previous game. This game between the two sides thus is a virtual semi-final in a bid to make it to the final. The Kiwis defeated Bangladesh in their first meeting earlier in the series.
New Zealand and Pakistan have played three games each in the series so far. Both teams have won two and lost one each. Bangladesh have played two games so far and lost both.
Pakistan’s top-order failed to give them a good start and as a result, they just scored 130/7 in their 20 overs. Mohammad Rizwan (16) and Babar Azam (21) were dismissed cheaply and the middle order could not contribute too much to that score.
New Zealand rode to victory on the 113-run opening start from Devon Conway (49*) and Fin Allen (62) and won the match by nine wickets inside 17 overs. Michael Bracewell, Mitchell Santner and Ish Sodhi took two wickets each with the ball.
“An improvement again from the last game, nice to adjust to the conditions, clinical and we used the big side. We thought it might suit it, we were limited to the seam bowling as we had to look after the others. It’s great that there’s a number of players in different roles, on this surface we want to address and we did that pretty well” said a happy Kane Williamson after his side’s clinical win over Pakistan.
