Afghanistan is set to play Pakistan in the T20 World Cup 2022 warm-up fixture at the Gabba in Brisbane. Both teams have had contrasting results in their previous warm-up games and this is expected to be a nail biting clash. Notably, the previous meeting between them, during the Asia Cup 2022 Super 4, went down the wire and proved to be a humdinger.
Afghanistan dominated Bangladesh in both bowling and batting departments in the previous warm-up game and they could not have had a better start in Australia ahead of their T20 World Cup campaign. However, they will be looking to get their combination right in the upcoming fixture against Pakistan which will be vital.
On the other hand, Pakistan were thrashed by England in the warm-up fixture and their target of 161 was chased down in just the 15th over. The Men in Green decided to rest Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan for the previous game and it proved to be costly.
Venue: Gabba, Brisbane
Date & Time: October 19, 8:30 AM
Telecast & Live Streaming: Star Sports Network
The Gabba pitch has been quite good for the batters and there is not much assistance for the bowlers to work on. The skipper winning the toss will be looking to bat first and put a big score on the board which might work with the pressure factor.
Afghanistan:
Mohammad Nabi (c), Najibullah Zadran (vc), Rahmanullah Gurbaz (wk), Azmatullah Omarzai, Darwish Rasooli, Farid Ahmad Malik, Fazal Haq Farooqi, Hazratullah Zazai, Ibrahim Zadran, Mujeeb ur Rahman, Naveen ul Haq, Qais Ahmad, Rashid Khan, Salim Safi, Usman Ghani
Pakistan
Babar Azam (c), Shadab Khan, Asif Ali, Fakhar Zaman, Haider Ali, Haris Rauf, Iftikhar Ahmed, Khushdil Shah, Mohammad Hasnain, Mohammad Nawaz, Mohammad Rizwan, Mohammad Wasim, Naseem Shah, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Shan Masood
Shan Masood:
Shan Masood was sent up the order against England in the warm-up game and he played a lot of shots in his quickfire 22-ball 39. The left-hander looked in terrific touch and he might get another opportunity at the top to keep his form in tact for the T20 World Cup 2022 campaign. Masood’s impressive stroke-making will be a key factor for Pakistan’s success with their middle-order failing constantly.
Haris Rauf:
Haris Rauf has been sensational for the Pakistan side in the last one to two years and his performances have been improving. The speedster has taken care of the death-over duties and has also provided wickets whenever the captain has wanted him to.
