India and Thailand will lock horns in the first semi-final fixture of the Women’s Asia Cup 2022 at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium in Bangladesh. India topped the points table and became the first team to qualify for the semi-finals of the continental event. After the Bangladesh vs UAE fixture was washed out, Thailand made their surprise entry at the next level.
The defending champions Bangladesh was knocked out of the race, and thus the six-time champions India would be eyeing a record seventh title. On the other hand, Thailand, who scripted history by defeating Pakistan in this tournament, will be looking to repeat similar heroics against the Women in Blue and seal their final berth.
Venue: Sylhet International Cricket Stadium, Bangladesh
Date and Time: October 13, 8:30 AM IST
Telecast & Live Streaming: Star Sports & Disney+Hotstar
Slower bowlers have benefited immensely from bowling on the surface of the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium, which is a spin-friendly track. Though batting has been challenging here, the pitch conditions do not support the batters in the second half. Thus, the side winning the toss would look to bat first and then defend the total.
Shafali Verma, Smriti Mandhana, Sabbhineni Meghana, Jemimah Rodrigues, Harmanpreet Kaur (c), Deepti Sharma, Sneh Rana, Richa Ghosh (wk), Pooja Vastrakar, Radha Yadav/Rajeshwari Gayakwad, Renuka Singh
Nannapat Koncharoenkai(w), Natthakan Chantham, Naruemol Chaiwai(c), Chanida Sutthiruang, Sornnarin Tippoch, Phannita Maya, Rosenan Kanoh, Onnicha Kamchomphu, Nattaya Boochatham, Thipatcha Putthawong, Aphisara Suwanchonrathi
If given the opportunity to bat, the young Jemimah Rodrigues will be the one to look out for in the game. Ever since her return from the injury, she has been in great touch and has been at her best at the Asia Cup matches. She is also the leading run-scorer of the tournament.
Spinners have so far in the event gained a significant competitive advantage. One of the most experienced spinners on the team, Deepti Sharma, would try to modify her bowling to suit the situation and take the key wickets. Her economy has been brilliant at the tournament so far, and she would look to maintain that.
